External Access Without VPN Login Host There is a server login-host-1.acelab.ca that you can log into without the VPN from anywhere. From it, you can ssh to any internal machine. You can ssh in to it with your MCIN (LDAP) credentials. Then you can ssh to any internal host that you have access to. Two points to remember:

MCIN Username What is LDAP? MCIN credentials (separate from McGill credentials) are stored in our LDAP Directory. LDAP technology allows us to begin the process of creating a central place where people can set and change passwords and other user information. In addition to saving time and making things easier for everyone, LDAP also allows us to shift our focus to tasks that improve, rather than maintain, our many IT services as well as the rest of our IT infrastructure.

Password Policy General Protecting the password from unauthorized use is the responsibility of the account owner. If a password is compromised, the owner should change it immediately and report the event to AceLab IT. Slack is a totally inappropriate way to request a password change or any configuration change. IT has a requirement to manage and track changes. All requests need to be put into Redmine:

Scheduled Power Outages In the event of a scheduled power outage affecting the North Wing or 527, please take all necessary precautions to protect any equipment by turning off your computer as well as the UPS before you leave. For users who happen to not be present to do so, the IT team will usually make rounds at the end of the day to ensure everything is turned off.
